An AI badminton coach that watches every rally

Badminton Sensei is an AI badminton coach app that learns from your real matches, not a generic plan. It watches every rally you film, measures your shot mix, smash speed, rally lengths and court coverage, and turns the patterns into plain-language Coach's tips.

The problem

Nobody watches every game

A good coach changes your game by noticing things you can't see from inside a rally. But lessons are an hour a week at best, and club night is where you actually play. Nobody is watching those games, and your memory of them is a highlight reel of your two best smashes and the shot you shanked at 19–19.

So you guess. You feel like your smash got faster. You think you lose the long rallies. You're sure your clears are deep. Some of that is true, and some of it is the story your memory likes.

What Sensei does

Evidence, every session

Prop the phone up and play. Sensei tracks every shuttle, names every shot and keeps the score, then tells you what actually happened, with numbers and with the video of the rallies that prove it.

What it notices

The things a coach would point out

  • Your shot mix

How often you smash, clear, drop, lift, drive and play net shots, per player.

  • Rally lengths

Short and long rallies, your longest of the night, and how they ended.

  • Court coverage

Where you moved and where your shots landed, on a map of the court.

  • Progress

Top smash, win rate and longest rallies, match after match.

  • Personal bests

Bests, streaks and badges that make the next session worth turning up for.

Coach's tips

Patterns, in plain language

Not a wall of charts. Short notes about your game, written like a coach would say them. Examples of the kind of tips you'll see:

  • Lifts

81% of your lifts went deep

Deep lifts push your opponent to the back and buy you time to recover. Keep doing it.

  • Shot mix

A third of your shots were lifts

That's a lot of defending. Look for chances to play a net shot or drive instead of lifting.

  • Rallies

You won most of the short rallies

Your first few shots are working. The long rallies are where the points got away.

Tips are written from the stats of your own matches; the wording above is illustrative.

Worked on your smash all month? The chart will tell you. One match is a snapshot; ten matches is a trend. Sensei keeps every match on your phone so the progress view gets more honest the more you play.

What an AI badminton coach app can and can't do

“AI coach” gets used for a lot of things, so here's exactly what it means in Badminton Sensei. The AI is computer vision: a neural network that tracks the shuttle, Apple Vision following the players, and court mapping, all running on your iPhone. From that it builds a factual record of your match. Coach's tips then look for patterns in that record and describe them in plain words.

What it doesn't do is just as important. It doesn't replace a human coach correcting your grip or your footwork in person, and it doesn't invent a training plan it can't justify. It doesn't chat. And it never pretends to be surer than one phone camera can be: uncertain smash speeds are marked, and line calls too close to judge say “Too close”.

Using it as a badminton training app

Sensei tells you what happened. The training is still yours, and that's where the rest of this site helps. If your shot mix shows you lift a lot under pressure, work on your net game with the beginner drills and their session builder. If the coverage map shows you're late to the back corners, try the footwork drills you can do at home. If your smash speed has stalled, read how to smash harder, then film again and see if the number moves.

A simple weekly loop

  1. Film one match at club night, phone behind a baseline.
  2. Read the tips and pick one thing to work on.
  3. Drill it for a week.
  4. Film again and check the same stat. Repeat.

A badminton trainer app for doubles, too

Doubles is where patterns hide best, because there are two of you to blame. Sensei detects doubles from the video and keeps stats per player, so you can see who's doing the lifting and who's finishing the points. Pair it with our doubles strategy guide to turn the numbers into positions.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free AI badminton coach app?

Badminton Sensei is free on iPhone with every feature included: shot tracking, smash speed, stats, progress charts and Coach's tips. No ads, no subscription and no in-app purchases.

Does it replace a real coach?

No. It gives you an accurate record of what happened in your matches and points out patterns, which makes lessons more useful. It doesn't correct technique in person.

Does it work for doubles?

Yes. It detects doubles from the video and keeps stats for each player, as well as the doubles score with servers and service courts.

Does it work on Android?

No. Badminton Sensei is iPhone only and needs iOS 26 or later.

Do I have to wear a sensor?

No. Everything comes from the iPhone's camera. No wearables, racket sensors or accounts.

Does it give me drills or a training plan?

It gives Coach's tips: plain-language patterns from your matches. For drills, use the free guides on this site, then film again to see the effect.

Is my data used to train AI?

No. Nothing leaves your iPhone. The app collects no data, has no server and makes no network requests.

Stop guessing. Start seeing.

Get a coach's eye on every game you play. Badminton Sensei traces every shuttle, clocks your smashes, calls the lines and keeps the score, all on your iPhone.
