Auto scoring

The score keeps itself

Automatic badminton scoring from the video itself: Sensei finds every rally, works out who won it and keeps a proper singles or doubles score, with servers, sides and games. Get one wrong? Fix that point and the whole match re-scores.

How it works

From rallies to a real score

Scoring isn't counting. It's knowing who serves, from which court, when the game ends and what happens at 20-all. Sensei handles all of it.

  1. Step 1

    Count the players

Two on court or four? The format is picked from the video, which also sets the court lines and serving rules.

  2. Step 2

    Split the rallies

The shuttle tracker sees when play starts and stops, so the video is cut into rallies automatically.

  3. Step 3

    Award each point

Where and how each rally ended decides who won it. Points it isn't sure about are flagged to confirm.

  4. Step 4

    Apply the rules

21-point rally scoring, win by two, capped at 30, best of three, with the right server and service court every point.

Try it

Fix a point. Watch it re-score.

The match is a list of rally winners. Add rallies, tap any earlier rally to flip it, and see the score, server and Lock Screen update together.

Score on your Lock Screen

Filming live, the score sits on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Prefer to tap points yourself between rallies? The +1 and undo buttons are right there, and the points you tap are matched to the rallies Sensei finds afterwards.

Corrections

Wrong once. Right everywhere.

A scoring app is only as good as how easily you can fix it.

  • Change a winner

Press and hold any rally and pick who won it. Servers, sides and later games all follow.

  • Add a missed rally

Scrub to it and add it at the playhead. The match re-scores from that point on.

  • Undo and redo

Every fix can be undone and redone, so experimenting is safe.

  • Points to confirm

Rallies the app was unsure about are collected in one list, so checking takes a minute.

Straight talk

Honest limits

  • It scores what it can see

A rally that happens off camera, or a stoppage that looks like play, can be missed or split. Add or fix it in a tap.

  • Close calls need you

When a line call is “Too close”, the point goes to confirm instead of being guessed.

  • People walking across the court

Someone crossing the frame can confuse the singles/doubles count. Switch the format in one tap; the match re-scores.

  • Friendly games, not officiating

It keeps a great record of your games but isn't a replacement for an umpire in official matches.

Frequently asked questions

Can an app keep the badminton score automatically?

Yes. Badminton Sensei finds each rally in the video, decides who won it and applies the 21-point rules, including deuce, the 30-point cap and best of three games. You can correct any point.

Does it work for doubles scoring?

Yes. It detects doubles from the video and tracks the serving side, the server and which service court they serve from, under the BWF Laws of Badminton.

What happens when it gets a point wrong?

Press and hold the rally, choose who won it, and the whole match re-scores, including servers, sides and later games. Every fix can be undone and redone.

Can I see the score while filming?

Yes. A Live Activity shows the score on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with +1 and undo buttons.

Is there a free badminton scoreboard app?

Badminton Sensei is free with every feature included. If you just want a manual scoreboard in your browser, try our free online score keeper.

How does badminton scoring work?

Every rally wins a point. A game goes to 21, but you must win by two; at 29-all the next point wins. A match is best of three games. Our scoring guide explains it with a simulator.
